Dahlonega Festivals and Events
First Friday Free Concerts -Free concerts in Hancock Park downtown start mid year and go through October. You can bring a take out dinner from a nearby restaurant and also purchase beer/wine at the concert. For more information visit free concerts.
Dahlonega House Concerts- House concerts are featured throughout the year at a large private home near Dahlonega. Professional music concerts provided for an admission fee that all goes to the artists. Adults only. For more information visit house concerts blog post.
Appalachian Music Jams- Dahlonega is a hub for blue grass music and musicians show up on Saturdays during certain times of the year to jam on the historic square in front of the Dahlonega Gold Museum. For more information visit music jams..
Valentines Weekend in February- There are many things to do in the area to celebrate Valentines weekend. Several of the wineries offer special dinners and Sunday brunches. For more information visit Dahlonega Valentines
Wine Highway Weekends in March- Every year the local wineries that belong to the Georgia Winegrowers Association have a special weekend to tour the wineries, provide tastings and special events. For a fee you receive a passport for free admission to all member wineries for tastings. For $50 per person you receive a collectors glass and passport good for member wineries during the entire month. More information at wine highway weekends.
Literary Festival- The Literary Festival celebrates books with visits by authors and storytellers. In 2020 it happens in March 6-7. Many authors are nationally known. Regional authors also featured. For more information visit their web site.
Bear on the Square Festival- 3rd weekend in April- An old time mountain festival celebrating mountain music and crafts. For more information visit Bear on the Square
Arts, Wine and Jazz Festival- Third weekend in May. See artists representing visual arts and fine crafts in all mediums. Enjoy tasting a variety of wines and listening to live jazz. For more information visit their web site.
Georgia Wine Country Festival at Three Sisters Winery- Every weekend in June this event celebrates the many resources of "Georgia Wine Country". Enjoy wine tastings, live music (bluegrass to classical to jazz), gourmet foods, folk art, farm exhibits, craft beer and live demonstrations.
Dahlonega's Fourth of July- This special event normally features a 5K run in the morning, food, small town parade, contests, special music and fireworks at the end of the day. For more information visit Dahlonega 4th.
Crush Fest at Yonah Mountain Vineyards- This festival started in 2009 and is always held in August. It features grape stomping, wine tastings, live music, food trucks, fine art, artisan vendors and new wine releases. The winery is about 35 minutes from Cedar House Inn and worth the drive. Dahlonega Trail Festival- Second weekend in September to celebrate hiking and the Appalachian Trail nearby. For outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, mountain biking, orienteering and more. Features speakers, authors, workshops, product demos, music, food and vendors. For more information visit TrailFest.
Six Gap Century Bike Ride Across the Mountains- Happens in September, a 100 mile bike ride through 6 mountain gaps. Also a 3 gap 50 mile ride or a shorter less difficult valley ride. Info at Six Gap.
The Biggest Festival of the Year- Gold Rush-. 3rd weekend in October to kick off the Fall season. Thousands come to celebrate Dahlonega's 1828 discovery of gold. Over 300 art and craft exhibitors gather around the square and historic district in support of this annual event. For more information visit gold rush festival.
HemlockFest- First full weekend in November this festival raises money to save the Hemlock Trees. Live bands, exhibits and more. This is the most unique of the festivals with it's outdoorsy theme. Cancelled due to Covid. For more information visit HemlockFest.
Dahlonega Thanksgiving- No special activities are usually scheduled for the Thanksgiving Holiday but there are several places that off a delicious Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving Day. Old Fashion Christmas- The colorful and beautifully illuminated historic downtown square forms the backdrop for wonderful Christmas activities. Shoppers are entertained with caroling, hospitality tables, carriage rides and activities through the weekends before Christmas. Southern Living wrote an article a couple of years ago that has made this a big event. A couple of Christmas movies were also filmed here. Dahlonega New Years Eve- This event features a variety of live music concerts December 31st with the Nugget Drop at midnight to ring in the new year. More information at New Years Eve.
