Three Rangers Dahlonega Brewery

Three Rangers Beer flight

The First Dahlonega Brewery

After many years of waiting we finally have a craft beer brewery in Dahlonega. Known as Three Rangers Brewery and Dahlonega Brewery it is located in the Etowah Meadery location on Highway 19 North just four minutes away from Cedar House Inn and Yurts. Grand opening was September 11, 2020.

They plan to expand the brewery in November to the grey building across the parking lot from the current meadery tasting room to ramp up more production. The name originally was Dahlonega Brewery but Three Rangers Brewery was added to honor the Army Rangers. Blair Housley who started the meadery is the brewmaster for Dahlonega Brewery and Three Rangers Brewery.

We visited the new Dahlonega Brewery last Sunday because we were out of town for the September 11th grand opening. You can order flights or glasses of their craft beers in the meadery tasting room and sip your beers inside or outside under a covered porch or tables with umbrellas. A large gas fire pit provides a warm and inviting place to sit and sip around on a cool fall afternoon or evening. Corn hole is also available if you want to play.

The Craft Beers at Three Rangers Brewery

They currently brew six craft beers at the newest Dahlonega brewery that include a lager, wheat, pale ale, IPAs and a porter. A tasting sampler is $12.00 for 4 samples or you can order a glass.

  1. Pathfinder Lager- made with warrior and galaxy hops, ABV 5%, IBU 18
  2. Rally Point Wheat- made with warrior and centennial hops, ABV 5.4%, IBU 20.4
  3. Jumpmaster Pale Ale- made with warrior, citra and cascade hops, ABV 5.9%, IBU 36.5
  4. Door Kicker IPA- made with CTZ, simcoe and centennial hops, ABV 7.7%, IBU 51.1
  5. Trigger Puller DIPA- made with amarillo, CTZ and warrior hops, ABV 9.7%, IBU 67.3
  6. Overwatch Porter- made with EK goldings, fuggle and warrior hops, ABV 6.0%, IBU 39

We had a tasting of four beers which included 2,3,5 and 6. They ran out of number 1 lager and 4 which is an IPA. Pictures of our flight are shown above with respective numbers. All were good but we liked the porter the best and will probably order a glass next time we visit.

If craft beer is not your thing you can also order flights of sparkling mead for the same price mentioned above.

They also often have food trucks on weekends as well as live music. For more information on their latest events and news visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TheDahlonegaBrewery

Guests who stay with us and get to know us learn that we love good craft beer. Craft beer offers so many different styles and flavors and have become more popular than wine in many circles. When we take vacations part of our itinerary is visiting the craft breweries in the area for tastings. After waiting for many years we are finally getting a craft beer brewery in Dahlonega.

We also have places in town to purchase a wide selection of craft beers; retail stores, a growler store and restaurants. Breweries are also located in neighboring Hall and White counties.

Left Nut Brewery

Brewery is located in Gainesville, GA about 45 minutes from the inn. They purchased an old warehouse east of town to set up a brewery and offer tastings. We like their IPA’s. If you head over to that area we can also recommend a great Greek restaurant – Alpha Gyro Grill – on the way for lunch or dinner. Tantrum Brewery

Located north of Cleveland and south of Helen, Georgia in neighboring White County about 26 minutes northeast of the inn. They are the first farm to table brewery since they grow their own hops on their nearby farm. With a view of Yonah Mountain out of the window you can enjoy a flight of their many great brews. NOFO Brewery

Located south of Dahlonega. Actually it is south of Dawsonville between Dawsonville and Cumming. NOFO stands for North Forsyth and is a favorite place to drink beer by the innkeepers. They have a nice venue right on highway 400 with a good selection of beers- primarily IPA’s and a rotating food truck. It would be a great place to stop at on your way to the inn or headed back home from the inn to the Atlanta area. More info at https://nofobrew.co/

From time to time we hear about other craft beer breweries coming to Dahlonega to set up shop. We hope they do since the market would be strong based on tourism volume and having a university in town.

Dahlonega Craft Beer Retail Shops

Gold City Growlers is the only Dahlonega craft beer store that specializes in craft beers. They offer flights of Georgia and other craft beers and you can purchase cans, bottles or growlers. We have a loaner growler at the inn you can use to pick up your favorite beer. To see what is currently on tap visit their web site at https://www.goldcitygrowlers.com/.

Restaurants Serving Craft Beer

Many of the restaurants serve craft beer but our favorite is Gustavo’s on the square. They seem to have the largest selection of Georgia craft beer of any restaurant in the area. Besides great pizza check out their blackboard where they list their rotating taps of beers including a high gravity option that we like. They also serve flights and on Thursday nights feature a brewery – order a beer from that brewery and you get to keep the logo glass your brew comes in. Shenanigan’s also has a nice selection of craft beers in an Irish pub atmosphere. We like to visit them for a glass of high gravity Old Rasputin Russian Stout when they have it.
