First Friday Dahlonega Outdoor Concerts

Come and stay with us any first Friday starting in June through the first Friday in October and enjoy the free Dahlonega outdoor concert in downtown Dahlonega’s Hancock Park.  The Dahlonega Downtown Development Authority/Main Street sponsors the concerts.

If you arrive in Dahlonega before our check in time enjoy the wineries in the area or the downtown tasting rooms. You may want to visit some of the waterfalls in the area too! The Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center on the historic Dahlonega square can provide you with more information and maps.

Check in with us at the inn after 4 pm. We will greet you, and you can enjoy some of Mary Beth’s freshly baked cookies, banana bread, brownies or other goodies.  We’ll orient you to the property and get you settled into your room or yurt.

Then head to historic Dahlonega to enjoy some shopping or pick up your picnic dinner from any of downtown’s popular restaurants.  Connie’s Ice Cream Parlor is close to the park and has great panini sandwiches to go. You can also check out the Picnic Cafe or order a pizza at Gustavo’s which are both on the square.

We can provide suggestions for other take out food choices. Bring a blanket or folding camp chairs from home and head to Hancock Park which is right off the historic square across the street from the Catholic church.

Concerts begin at 6:30 and usually wrap up at around 8:30.  Weather Permitting

Bear on the Square Festival

music on the squarel

Come stay with us and attend the Bear on the Square Mountain Festival in Dahlonega, Ga., on Saturday and Sunday, the third weekend in April.

The festival is known for live bluegrass mountain music,  jam sessions, storytelling, live and silent auctions, and a dinner to kick things off on Friday.

The festival features many “main stage” acts from Friday evening until Sundaybear on the square festival afternoon.

Appalachian Jams musicians start gathering on Friday afternoon around the historic square as well as .acoustic jams.  Bring a chair and watch or bring an instrument and join in. Musicians perform the old fiddle tunes, country, and bluegrass. If you play bring your guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bass, lap dulcimer, hammered dulcimer, autoharp, mouth harp, jews harp.

If you bring your own instrument and do not want to carry it around they have instrument checking, similar to a coat check in a fancy restaurant. Give them your instrument and they will give you a token used to get it back while you wander around the festival.

During most festivals they have a moonlight jam at 7:30pm on the main stage where you can listen or jam with a famous mountain music musician.

Free workshops are held on Saturdays and Sundays  on topics such as storytelling, ukelele, mandolins, clogging, jamming, fiddling, guitar tips and singing.

Also enjoy the artists marketplace with traditional crafts and juried art from award winning artists. Some years they have over 80 booths.

On Saturday the festival features storytelling with professional storytellers who are keeping the oral tradition of the mountains alive.

Bear on the Square has been featured in Explore Georgia’s “10 Signature Georgia Music Festivals to Experience this Spring.”
